Maps4Garmin Weather Radar Changes

Radar Changes

Maps4Garmin has long provided maps and weather radar to Garmin users. In the past, we've used RainViewer to supply this weather radar. However, starting today, RainViewer is phasing out its weather radar options.

I have spent that past month looking for alternative options, and I'm close to selecting a weather radar provider that can take the place of RainViewer. However, as I finish up the selection, you may notice weather radar missing if you zoom in past zoom level 5. This is part of RainViewer's phase out, and I hope to have this issue resolved soon.

Pricing Changes

If you're reading this, you've likely already purchased Maps4Garmin under the "one-time" purchase plan. If so, there's nothing for you to do. We said that the purchase was for the lifetime of weather radar in Maps4Garmin, and therefore there's nothing for you to do.

For new users, however, Maps4Garmin's premium offerings are moving to yearly (365 day) licenses. Users can purchase the premium features for a year, but then need to purchase again the following year to continue using the weather radar.

Again, this does not effect customers who bought the app with the lifetime license (primarily before September 1, 2025).

I hope these changes make sense in light of the fact that RainViewer was a free service, while all other global weather radar providers charge a substantial fee. If you have any questions regarding this change, feel free to reach out at support@maps4garmin.freshdesk.com.
